Lowry looking for return to form at BMW PGA Championship
Offaly golfer Shane Lowry will be hoping for a return to form at one of his favourite courses this week when he tackles the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
Lowry's recent form has been mixed, but despite missing the cut at the Arnold Palmer in March, he has steadied the ship somewhat to put a string of four Top 50 finishes together. The best of those came at the Houston Open where he finished in 14th spot.
His most recent tournament, The Players Champonship, was mixed with the Clara man struggling early on, but recovering to make the cut and finish in a share of 46th place.
Despite all that, Lowry's form at Wentworth suggests he can put himself in contention this week at a venue he admits to relishing. He was fourth in the 2011 BMW PGA Championship, and ran Rory McIlroy close in 2014 before he had to settle for second.
He was 6th in 2015 and last year, suggesting a Top 10 finish is not out of the question this week. He'll also have a familiar face alongside him as he's been grouped with Graeme McDowell for the first two days of the tournament.
Thomas Bjorn completes the trio and they will tee off on their first round at 1pm on Thursday afternoon. Shane Lowry is among the favourites, priced at 25/1 to win the tournament by the bookies. Rory McIlory, the big name in the field, is the current favourite at 8/1.
