Offaly showjumper claims gold in Kentucky
Offaly's Darragh Kenny has won gold yet again in America after claiming the $35,000 Hagyard Classic in Kentucky riding Jack Snyder's Babalou.
Kenny produced the fastest double clear round to win, while fellow Irishman Lorcan Gallagher took third with Hunters Conlypso II.
The coincidence of the win was the fact that the course at the Rolex Stadium had been designed by Ireland's Alan Wade. 53 competitors took to the course but Kenny's double-clear round of 44.22 seconds was a clear winner.
Seven horse and rider combinations made it through to a jump-off, and while Brazil's Leivas Da Costa's time of 44.44 was swift, Darragh managed to shave two-tenths of a second of it with his mare Babalou, a partnership that's only three months old.
He described her as "a super mare" afterwards and expressed his delight at the win. Next up for the pair is the Grand Prix at the same course on Saturday.
