Lowry needs special performance at this week's Genesis Open

Offaly golfer Shane Lowry will need a top 2 finish at this week's Genesis Open in California if he is to qualify for the WCG Mexico Championship.

The Clara man fell back down the field last week at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, finishing in joint-43rd spot, having ended his third round inside the Top 20.

His putting was once again an issue as he failed to cobble four solid rounds together. This week, he plays alongside Americans Charley Hoffman and Jimmy Walker where he'll need to win or finish in share of at least second place to be on the plane to Mexico.

Lowry has only competed in three events this season son far and will be hoping to boost his performance in order to jump up the rankings into the world's Top 50 in order to play at the 2018 US Masters. He currently sits in 69th spot.

Lowry tees off on his first round at the Genesis Open at 3.32pm (Irish time) on Thursday. Stay tuned to www.offalyexpress.ie to follow his progress throughout the weekend.
