Offaly Camogie name new captain and vice captain

Offaly Camogie is gearing up for a mammoth battle to stay in Division 1 of the Camogie League in the coming weeks, and will now have a new leader in the shape of Arlene Watkins.

The Birr woman has been named captain of the senior set-up and will be flanked by new vice-captain Linda Sullivan.

Arlene Watkins has been a massive player for Offaly in the past 12 years as she was a member of the junior and intermediate Offaly team that won back-to-back All-Irelands in 2009 and 2010.

Arlene was also the captain of the Offaly senior camogie team in 2013 and won a Camogie Soaring Star in 2009.

Linda Sullivan (St.Rynaghs) is the vice-captain of the team with St.Rynaghs winning their first ever senior club title last October. Linda was also a member of the successful Offaly team in 2009 and 2010.

The team is coming off the back of two defeats, and were dealt a further blow last week when joint manager Adrian O'Sullivan left the panel due to a change in work commitments meaning Mike Wall steps solely into the managerial role.

Their next game is against Galway in Pearse Stadium this coming Sunday, February 18 at 12pm. It will form part of a double-header as the Offaly hurlers take on Galway immediately afterwards.
