Three Offaly women named on Ireland's Six Nations squad
Three Offaly women have been named in the Ireland squad of 23 for the country's crucial Six Nations clash with Italy in Donnybrook this weekend.
Head Coach Adam Griggs has made three changes to the team after a bruising 24-0 loss to France in their first game last weekend.
Ailsa Hughes, representing Railway Union and Leinster, retains her place, while Tullamore and Coonacht star Nichola Fryday comes into the starting 15 to start in the second row.
The third Offaly woman in the squad is the previously uncapped Michelle Claffey, representing Blackrock and Leinster, who is named on the substitutes bench.
It is unprecedented for three Offaly players to form part of an international squad for Ireland, and if Michelle Claffey makes an appearance, 20% of the team on the pitch at that time will be from Offaly, provided Hughes and Fryday are still on at the time.
The game against Italy kicks off at 1pm this Sunday, February 11 in Donnybrook.
