Shane Lowry to play alongside Limerick businessman in Pebble Beach Pro-Am
Offaly golfer Shane Lowry will play alongside Limerick financial director, Gerry McManus at this week's AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California.
Gerry is the brother of billionaire businessman and horse racing owner JP McManus, who has previously played with Lowry in pro-am events.
Gerry McManus and Lowry played together last October when they finished in joint 17th at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at the renowned St Andrew’s in Scotland.
The Pebble Beach event sees golfers playing a regular PGA Tour event alongside amateurs, including family, friends and celebrities.
Rory McIlroy is playing with his father, while some of the celebrities taking part include Ray Romano from Everybody Loves Raymond, actor Bill Murray, and NFL stars Aaron Rodgers, Tony Romo and Larry Fitzgerald.
Lowry will be hoping a return to links golf will reignite his form after a number of disappointing performances. Although making the cut last week at the Phoenix Open, the Clara man slumped to a 69th place finish.
Shrewd judges have noted Lowry's chances in this event giving his penchant for links courses. Boylesports reported yesterday that his odds had shortened from 66/1 to 50/1 in the outright market.
Lowry will tee off at 16:55pm (Irish time) on Thursday evening on his first round. Businessman Dermot Desmond will play in the same group alongside professional partner Rafael Cabrera-Bello.
