Offaly's Shane Lowry recovered from two early bogeys to sign for a second round 70 at the exclusive end-of-year DP World Tour tournament in Dubai on Friday.
Shane's front 9 showed signs of derailing as he bogeyed the third and eighth holes, but a birdie in that run on the fifth allowed him to make the turn at two under for the tournament having shot a 69 on Day 1.
Tyrell Hatton was setting a staggering pace as he signed early on for a round of 63, putting him at nine under for the tournament, but as the early afternoon progressed, the pack closed in on him.
Matthew Fitzpatrick surpassed him as he shot another 67, putting him in a one shot lead overall at ten under.
Lowry also closed the gap on his back 9 as he went bogey-free and added three further birdies to his tally. He left it late as they came on holes 15, 17 and 18, leaving the Clara man just five off Fitzpatrick on five under par heading into the weekend.
Lowry lies in a share of 15th place, while Paul Dunne continues as the top placed Irish man in a share of 6th on seven under par.
The tournament continues on Saturday morning.
