Offaly hurlers to face just one team in Walsh Cup

Kevin Martin's Offaly hurling side will face just one team in next season's Walsh Cup.

The draw for the pre-season tournament has put Offaly in the only group of two alongside neighbours Westmeath.

These two sides will renew their rivalry from last term as they face off in two fixtures, one home and one away.

These sides were very familiar to one another in 2017 as they played twice in the Leinster Championship. Offaly finally got the better of the argument in the replay after a late scoring spree from Shane Dooley.

The Walsh Cup is often used as a means to blood young players but Westmeath will be keen to lay down a marker against the team that remains in the top tier of Leinster hurling for next year's new round robin format.

The Walsh Cup throws in on December 30.
