Offaly man Shane Lowry has made an encouraging start to the season-ending DP Tour Championship in Dubai.
Lowry qualified for the tournament after a Top 10 at the Turkish Open and a 12th place finish last week at the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
He was out early this morning and shot a three-under par round of 69, signing for just a single bogey over the first 18 holes of the tournament.
The Clara man has been struggling to eradicate bogeys from his game, but started well today with a run of eight pars and a birdie on the front nine.
Having hit his first birdie on the second hole, Shane played the waiting game and managed his second birdie putt on the 11th.
He followed that with the sole bogey on his card, but finished in the ascendancy with birdies on 14 and 18.
His round of 69 puts Lowry within striking distance of the leader, currently Scott Hend of Australia on six under par.
Lowry will be hoping to continue his march through the select field of 60 when he returns to the course for his second round early on Friday.
