Offaly footballers to be without three key men in 2018
The newly installed Offaly Senior Football manager, Stephen Wallace has confirmed that he will be without three big names in 2018.
Adding to the recent retirements of stalwarts Niall McNamee and Brian Darby, Clara man and midfield talisman Graham Guilfoyle has stepped away from the senior set-up.
It's understood that work commitments are behind Guilfoyle's decision, adding to the selection headache for Stephen Wallace.
Wallace has previously told the Offaly Express that he will look at a lot of young players, expressing a hope that U21 and Minor players from the last few seasons will turn into top senior prospects.
To that end, he will be disappointed to see the back of Ruairi Allen and Ruairi McNamee, both of whom will be spending time in Australia in 2018.
McNamee in particular was a top prospect having captained the Offaly U21s to a Leinster final earlier this year, a game they lost to Dublin. He was also a key man in Rhode's recent league and championship double, putting in a stellar final performance in the championship.
Wallace is focusing on the players that are there, and is excited to get started, saying that there is plenty of work to be done between now and Offaly's first league game in January.
