Offaly darts thrower in international action

Stephen Rosney

AN Offaly darts thrower has been in international action recently.

Stephen Rosney has just recently returned home from Hungary where he reached the final of the Hungarian Classic - topping his group in the World Masters before winning his first 2 knockout games also the day after but ran out of steam in the last 32.

By far the highlight of his trip to Budapest was qualifying for the Lakeside WDF World Championships on Sunday November 30th by reaching the semi finals of the qualifier. He will make his debut on this iconic stage in the afternoon session which kicks off at 12.30pm.

This is a huge achievement for the Offaly Star and Offaly Darts are so very proud of him and all his hard work.

Rosney is originally from Nenagh, County Tipperary but represents Offaly competitively and is currently the Offaly and Republic of Ireland Captain.

He became transfixed by the drama of the Ally Pally and the annual World Championship showcase at the age of 18. He had never really thrown a dart, or indeed paid the slightest bit of attention to the sport, until it caught his eye on the television one Christmas. Within the space of a week, he was hooked. He begged his parents for months to buy him a dart board and they eventually buckled and it may just be the best decision they ever made.

He won the Irish Masters in 2024 and followed up earlier this year with the Island International title. In April, he captured the INDO Irish Singles crown at the Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe, which secured his number one spot and guaranteed his place at the World Cup in Korea last September.
