Darren Ferguson frustrated Peterborough could not go on to win at Burton

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson was frustrated that his young side could only grab a point as they came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at struggling Burton.

Ferguson saw Archie Collins and Emmanuel Fernandez haul his side level after the Brewers had raced into a two-goal lead before the half-hour.

“It’s unbelievable that we don’t win that game,” he said. “I know why and it’s because we are giving ourselves a mountain to climb. The goals we conceded are absolutely disgraceful.

“We keep saying it and until we can get personnel changes and we can get some bodies to come in and help us out defensively, the goals we are conceding are absolutely appalling.

“We need a bit of experience and I wish I could still play!”

Crucially, Posh halved the arrears just before half-time from Collins’ 25-yard effort and pushed hard in the second half, with Fernandez eventually equalising from a corner.

But a crucial winner eluded them, and Ferguson added: “When it goes to 2-0 it affected us and you could see that, but the goal that Archie gets was a big boost for us and after that we absolutely dominated the game.

“Manny gets us back in it and from there we are thinking about going on to win it.

“I can’t fault the endeavour. A lot of teams would have gone under at 2-0, but it’s a disappointing result.”

For Burton head coach Gary Bowyer it was a case of deja vu after seeing his side surrender a lead for the second game running.

“At 2-0 up you always hope to go on and win the game,” Bowyer said. “That said, you look at the opposition and I think they are in a massively false position with the talent that they’ve got.”

Albion could not have wished for a better start, with midfielder Kegs Chauke firing home his maiden EFL goal inside six minutes.

Bowyer was delighted for the former Southampton youngster, and said: “We have been banging on at Kegs to get in the box and I was really excited for him when he scored. It’s his first ever League goal, which is terrific.”

Bowyer was delighted with the second goal too, with Rumarn Burrell’s header his first goal in English League football.

“We scored a magnificent second goal too. The ball from (Danilo) Orsi – if that’s in the Premier League you are saying ‘what a pass’. It’s Rumarn’s first goal as well, so we are delighted to have two lads scoring their first League goals.”

The key thing for Burton was conceding just before half-time and handing the initiative to Peterborough.

“Conceding just before half-time was poor from us, we switched off from their set play,” Bowyer added. “But I have to say that our efforts are unbelievable. The lads are emptying everything for us and what they are giving us is amazing right now.”
