GOALS were the key as Tullamore got the better of Shinrone in U-16B Camogie Final in Mountbolus recently.

Tullamore hit on no fewer than five occasion in what was a very entertaining game. Shinrone also put up an impressive total of 1-10 but their opponents knack of being able to get in for three pointers made the difference on the day.

Playing with wind in the first half ,two Aisling Feeney goals and one from Lisa Gorman would see Tullamore laeding by 3-2 to 0-6 at half time. Gorman was the top scorer on the day finishing with 2-5 in a fine individual display.

Shinrone’s points in the first-half came from Grainne Egan (3) Christine Cleary (2) and Aine O’Meara.

With the advantage of the wind in the second-half, Shinrone flew out of the blocks and after a point from Christine Cleary, Grainne Egan score a quickfire 1-1 to get her side back within a point with a quarter of the game remaining.

The game was in the balance at this point but a point from the prolific Lisa Gorman lifted the siege and they added two further goals with Gorman and Sarah Henry finding the back of the net.

These would prove to be the crucial scores as while Shinrone hit back with a brace of points, they could not break the down the Tullamore defence to get the goals they so desperately needed.

Tullamore captain Paula Kinnarney collected the trophy from Ray Molloy, Vice Chairman of the County Board.

All Tullamore girls played really well with Lisa Gorman and Aisling Feeney scoring 4-5 between them to kill off the Shinrone challenge.

Shinrone certainly played their their part in a good game of camogie with Grainne Egan and Christine Cleary hiting 1-8 between them.
