*OFFALY GAA Supporters are in for a triple treat in the coming days with two eagerly anticipated Leinster Championship games and the Offaly Supporters Club lunch which kicks off the list of events on Friday.
This year the club is delighted to have members of the Offaly 1960/61 football team present to mark 50 years since they were defeated in the largest ever attended All-Ireland final. The event is also being used by the victorious 1986 All Ireland Minor Hurling team as a base for their reunion. It is 25 years since their great success.
Two legends of the game, Daragh O Se and Nicky English will be the guest speakers while Michael Duignan will carry out the MC duties. A four course buffet lunch will be served from 2pm sharp. While being fed and watered, patrons will have the chance to mingle with their heroes from yesteryear as the evening roles on.
Tickets are €50 for the not to be missed event and can be purchased from any committee member. Paul Bell 087 9778225, Seamus Dolan 087 8519649, Ciaran Daly 086 7825566, James Buckley 087 2462306, Sean Craven 086 2237022, Ronnie Byrne 086 8116168, Brian Lowry 087 9289677 or from the reception at the Tullamore Court Hotel.
The action on the field gets underway on Saturday evening when Offaly welcome Wexford to O’Connor Park in the first round of the Leinster Senior Football Championship. The sides met in the same venue in the league when the visitors prevailed but Tom Cribbin’s side will be hoping to reverse the result this weekend.
On Sunday all roads lead to Croke Park as Offaly take on Division 1 League champions Dublin in the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship. Joe Dooley’s side lost to the Metropolitans at home in the league and go in as underdogs but they will be looking to put the disappointment of relegation from the league behind them when they take to the field in headquarters.
Tickets for Offaly’s two crunch Leinster Championship games this weekend will go on sale this Thursday night in O’Connor Park from 7pm to 8.30pm.
