A freak accident which has left him with a fractured bone in his thumb looks set to sideline Offaly golfer Shane Lowry for the coming weeks.
The Esker Hills clubman suffered the injury as a result of a fall before Christmas but the full extent of the injury was not diagnosed until last week.
It is thought the fracture, which is to one of the small bones at the base of the thumb, will have healed sufficiently to allow Shane to return to action in February for either the tournament in Qatar or Dubai on the lucrative 'Desert Swing'.
However he looks set to miss the first leg of that trio of the tournaments, the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship where he finished fourth last year.
On his first full season on tour in 2010, Shane narrowly missed out on a place in the top 60 in the Race to Dubai.
He eventually finished the year in 62nd place on the European Order of Merit earning over €500,000 in the process.
He also played in his first majors finishing in 37th place at the Open Championship in St Andrew's.
