Liffey Mills set to host Demonstration Day for Animal Health

The aim of these days to be educational and engaging

With the landscape of Animal health products changed and requiring greater attention from farmers Liffey Mills have decided to hold an information afternoon on best practice to equip farmers with the best practice around animal remedies.

With antiparasitic resistance becoming an issue nationally Liffey Mills Vet, Philip Long MVB wanted to engage directly with as many farmers as possible to develop confidence in the messages we are trying to to promote around the sustainable use of antiparasitic products.

Liffey Mills fully support this idea and share these views for a sustainable future. The aim of these days to be educational and engaging, focusing on calf paddocks and the different ways we can reduce pastures burden on these calf paddocks, so we can reduce the need for using unnecessary anthelmintics products early in the season reserving them for use later in the season where worm number naturally increase.

Vet Philip Long will go through the different options we have to combat this issue before a representatives from animal remedies manufactures will demonstrate how to give a long acting worming product behind the ear, detailing how to give correctly.

Eilish Gill from the SPARC project a European initiative around the Sustainable Use of Anti-parasitics in Grazing Animals will be there demonstrating dosing gun calibration and cleaning, a essential step to make sure under dosing is not happens as this will encourage resistance development in all parasites.

We will also have discussions on Summer scour syndrome and other conditions we can expect and equip ourselves with for the season ahead.

We all have the same goal, we want to promote sustainable use of anti-parasitics products, get people thinking of the additional elements involved in parasite control like pasture management and dosing correcting to name a few.

We want to build knowledge, build better practices and build a better future leaving our farms in a better place for the generations to come.
