National medals for Offaly rowers

Sadhbh Keohane (left) silver for Junior 18 500m at Irish Indoor Rowing Championships.

The Irish Indoor Rowing Championship was held in the University of Limerick Sports Arena on Saturday 20th January.

It was a highly successful day with all competitors posting personal bests and showing improvement on performances from last November’s Provincial Indoor Rowing Championships where we took home 3 Medals, Róisín Byrne winning silver and bronze in the Junior 18 1000m and 2000m events respectively and Sadhbh Keohane winning bronze in the Junior16 500m event. The Women’s relay team of Sadhbh, Róisín, Emily Byrne and Aishling Walsh finished third in the 5th and 6th year event.

In the IIRC Róisín took Gold in the Junior 18 1000m event and Sadhbh took silver in the Junior 18 500m event. Róisín performed very strongly in the 2000m event with a personal best time of 7:28 to finish 7th in a very strong field ahead of many national team members who were required to take part as part of their trialing process. Emily and Aishling showed marked improvement, lowering their personal best times considerably in this event with Sadhbh performing well also.

Shane McLoughlin also put in a strong performance in the Mens Junior 18 2000m and 500m events. Congratulations to all who took part.
