Councillor clears up confusion over new housing development in Edenderry

Edenderry councillor Noel Cribbin has moved to clarify confusion around the naming of a new housing development in Edenderry in recent days.

Offaly County Council are presently constructing 33 new social houses in Edenderry in a scheme named Blundell Wood due to its location adjacent to Blundell Castle and wood.

However, confusion arose around the name because there is already a housing estate called Blundell Wood close to the canal bank in Edenderry.

"It's not practical nor acceptable to have two estates and addresses the same as it would cause confusion with postal deliveries, courier deliveries, and so on," Cllr Cribbin said.

He therefore brought this situation to the attention of the housing section in Offaly County Council where it was agreed that this was "a genuine mistake."

"Whilst the construction site will continue to be called Blundell Wood, the houses, when complete, will have a different name and address and the new estate will have its new name when the site is nearer to completion," Cllr Noel Cribbin told the Offaly Express.
