Edenderry's Team Hurricane compete at White Tiger Challenge

Edenderry’s Team Hurricane kickboxing club make the move west next weekend to the Breaffy House Resort in Castlebar for the White Tiger Challenge.

This premium event has grown year on year and now is recognised by the top teams in Europe. Barely recognisable from the small foundation event in 2010 when Team Hurricane made the long trip to Castlebar to take on the recently formed White Tiger club led by Damien Gormley.

This small 2 team event has now grown to an enormous international event drawing top teams and fighters from all over Europe.

Damien, closely assisted by his sister Caroline Flannery, have announced at least 15 international teams, the names are all top drawer. Kiraly from Hungary, Bestfighter from Italy, Wolfpack from Scotland, WOMAA Wales and every top team in England including Bristol, Epic, Energize, Watford Freestyle, Team Renegade, Team SAS and of course the All Stars featuring Elijah Everill and Natasha Baldwin, will all step onto the mats.

Far from a closed shop event just for the top athletes, the White Tiger Challenge ensures there are categories for all ages and levels in KATA, Musical weapons and Forms, Light Contact and Point Fighting.

Team Hurricane from Edenderry will field a full team again this year with the welcome addition being the musical forms crew, formed only last September, making their competitive debut at the WTC. Claire Brennan will lead the team on their debuts on Saturday morning alongside Ailish Kelly with her Kata team from Carbury Martial Arts.

Team Hurricane fighters will compete on Saturday in Light Contact and on Sunday in the Point fighting. The senior men sections will be the highlight for many with the Kiraly duo of Kristian Jaroszkievicz and Roland Veres, All Star Elijah Everill and Team Hurricane's very own Jay Daniels featuring heavily in the latter stages.

The ladies event should also be keenly contested with Shannon Ryan (Watford), Henrietta Nagy (Kiraly), Gemma Upfold (Bestfighter) and Natasha Baldwin to the fore. Team Hurricane’s Nathan Tait will also be keen to defend his junior Grand Champion title he won with so much style last year.

Club sensei, Jay Daniels will also compete for the Irish National title in -69 Kg class, taking on Jordan White of Spartan Martial Arts. Each fighter has won one round of the nationals and must fight off for the national title. Jay is an eight-time national champion and hopes to take the 9th title and qualify to fight for Team Ireland in the WAKO European Championships later
in the year.
