Tullamore Harriers Club Notes (May 29)

Aaron Mangan, Ava O'Connor, Lydia Buckley and James Dunne in Belfast at the weekend

Irish Milers Club

Some of the clubs young Seniors and Junior athletes had a great day in Belfast at the weekend. There were five Harriers juveniles running in middle distance races. In the 800m Ava O'Connor ran 2.16, a new PB for her, while Lydia Buckley ran 2.25, which is a great return to form after being laid up with injury over the winter.

In the 1500m Nadine Donegan ran 4.50 after a very fast first lap. In the mile Aaron Mangan ran 4.23 with James Dunne running 4.36. Well done to all.

Killeigh Annual 4-mile Road Race (Offaly Novice Road Race Championships)

The Annual Killeigh 4 Mile road race was run off on Saturday 26 th May. 181 runners covered the undulating course and also had very humid conditions to add to the challenge. This year the race is part of the Offaly Middle Distance Road Race Series. The race was won by Peter Somba (Dunboyne AC). Peter posted 19.58 with ease and smashed the course record into the bargain – 1st man to break 20 minutes. Sinead Lambe (Donore Harriers) was 1st lady (23:53). First home for Tullamore Harriers was Paul Mitchell who finished 3rd overall in 21:18. Jason Donegan was next up in 4th place in 21:30. Nita McLoughlin was 3rd lady overall (26:21) and Dympna Fox 4th lady (21:31). Dympna took the o40 prize. Rita Daly was 1st o50 (28:06), Johnny Feery 1st o60 (24:03) and 1st female Junior Sarah Keyes (51:56).

Bob Heffernan 5k

The Bob Heffernan 5k, hosted by Na Fianna A.C. in Enfield, had over 500 athletes competing on Tuesday 22nd May, on what was a perfect evening for running. The glorious sunshine plus the reputation of running on a pb course, encouraged the field of mainly club runners from all over the midlands and beyond. The race winner was Hiko Tonosa (Dundrum AC) in 14.19. 21 of our members skipped training to represent the club and they posted some super results. First home for Tullamore Harriers was Aaron Mangan (16.19) who was 2nd Junior, and 1st lady for

Tullamore was Nadine Donegan (18.14) who was 5th Senior Lady. Her sister Danielle took the Junior lady prize with a time of 18.52. Tullamore ladies took 2nd place in the team category (Nadine Donegan, Danielle Donegan and Dympna Fox) while the Men were 3rd in the team placing (Aaron Mangan, Mark Donegan and David Murray). Dympna Fox picked up 2nd prize in the o45 age group. Mullingar Park Run

Well done to Jim Langan who competed in the Mullingar 5k Parkrun on Saturday 26th May. Jim posted a time of 25:18, was 1 st o75 and 34 th overall.

Kennedy Park 5k

Well done to Mark Harper who posted a pb in the Kennedy Park 5k in Wexford, with at time of 19:47. The race was hosted by Sliabh Buidhe Rovers A.C on Sunday 27th May.

Lough Cutra Half Marathon

Michelle Mullaney was 9th lady in the Lough Cutra Half Marathon, held on Sunday 27 th May, with a time of 1:42:02. This off road race was part of The Castle race series and based near Michelle's home turf of Gort. Great running Michelle.

Sinead Rigney, the Tullamore Harriers rose may not have won the Offaly Rose of Tralee selection contest but she looked beautiful and did us proud in the Bridge House on Saturday night 26 th May. Congrats Sinead. Her fab dress was sponsored by Lloyds Pharmacy. Congrats to Tullamore’s Katie Kehoe who was crowned Offaly Rose, best of luck in Tralee.

Tullamore Harriers Summer Camp

Tullamore Harriers is hosting an Athletics Ireland Summer Camp. The Athletics Ireland Summer Camps will give children the chance to try a whole range of fun athletics events such as: Sprinting • Javelin • Hurdles • Shot put • High jump • Relays. Camps are open to children aged 6 - 12 and are priced at €60 for one week with a €10 discount for each additional family member, the camp begins on a Monday and runs right through to Friday with it starting at 10am and finishing at 2pm daily. As
well as learning new skills, making new friends whilst having lots of fun each child will go home with a t-shirt, back pack, water bottle, an improved medal for 2018 and a participation certificate. Please see poster and for all details and registration.

Just 3 months to go to the Tullamore Harriers Quinlan Cup Half Marathon - Saturday 25th August. This year we anticipate closing the event much earlier so sign up now. Again this year we have the Relay Entry option so if you are not interested in the Half Marathon and would like to be part of this fantastic day....this is your opportunity. Access to Harriers Facilities

Please note that use of the club’s facilities, including the tarmac track, is restricted to members of the club. Walkers are not permitted on the track during training sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays 6.30pm-8pm.
