Shane Lowry made an eventful return to action on the PGA Tour at the Farmers Insurance Open.
In his first competitive round of 2017, the Offaly golfer shot a one under par 71 on the North Course at Torrey Pines but that does not even begin to tell the story of his round which included seven birdies.
He started with three consecutive bogeys but birdied five of the next six holes to go to the turn at two under par. He added another birdie at the 11th to move right into contention at three under but a double bogey at the par 4 13th dropped him back to one under.
Another bogey followed at the 15th but he got that back with a birdie on 16 before finishing with two pars to card his 71.
Olympic gold medalist Justin Rose leads on seven under with Canadian Adam Hadwin a shot behind.
