Strong performances from Tullamore Harriers athletes at National Half-Marathon Championships

More than 5400 runners took to the streets of Dublin on the August Bank Holiday fro the Rock’n’Roll Half Marathon.

More than 5400 runners took to the streets of Dublin on the August Bank Holiday fro the Rock’n’Roll Half Marathon.

Within that group was 700 AAI athletes competing in the National Half Marathon Championships which was run in conjunction with the Rock’n’Roll event.

The men’s race was won my Mullingar’s Mark Christie in 1.06.09 while Cork’s Lizzie Lee won the women’s race in a new pb of 1.04.48. Tullamore Harriers were well represented on the day with three very strong performances from Dave Murray, who ran a new pb of 1.20.02; Olivia Grant who clocked 1.37.06 and Rita Daly who finished in 1.41.53. Streets of Galway 8k

The popular Streets of Galway 8k, which is now in its 28th year, was held last Saturday evening attracting more than 2000 runners including Harriers’ John Harkin who finished 2nd in his 040 age group (24th overall) in a time of 27.46.


Annaglasson 10k

Karen Nolan and Mary McIntyre took part in the Annaglasson 10k in Co. Louth last Saturday where they both achieved new pbs with Karen taking third place in the women’s race in a time of 45.24 while Mary was 6th in 46.17.


Barrowhouse 5k

Ballyfin AC hosted the Barrowhouse 5k in Co. Laois on Sunday 11th Aug which drew a high quality field from the surrounding counties. The race was won by Kilkenny’s Thomas Hayes, the winner of the previous week’s Daingean 5k. Catch Grennan was first O-40 (5th overall) in 16.30 and Dave Fox finished 9th overall in 17.20.


Half-Marathon Relay - Need a Partner

Anyone looking for a relay partner for the Half Marathon on 31st August can put their name on a list on the Clubhouse notice board. The relay option is for teams of two with each person running 10.5k. Online entry for the Half Marathon is available at
