In the recent Leinster Boxing Championships for Boys and Girls, boxers from the Tullamore based Spartacus Club continued to impress and to build on their fine performances in the county championships earlier this year.
The club which was represented by eight boxers in categories 1, 2 and 3 won three gold medals and one silver. The three gold medal winners now progress to the national finals.
These were Tiffany Hadley in Girls 1, 44KG category, Daria Bartuzel in Girls 1, 57KG category and Hugh Doyle in Boys 2, 60KG category.
Tiffany and Daria will now fight in the National Female Championships in Dublin on April 27 and Hugh will fight in the Boys finals on the 7th of April.
Michael Kavanagh (Boys 3 – 63KG category) was very unfortunate not to also make the national finals. Having made it to the final his fight ended in a draw. However he was demoted to the silver medal position based on the count back rule. Michael will no doubt learn from this experience and will improve in the future.
The other four boxers that took part and did the club proud were William McDonagh (boys 1 – 33KG) who was defeated by 3 points in the semi final; Christopher Myers (Boys 1 – 36KG) who lost his semi final by 1 point; John Nevin (Boys 1 – 39KG) who went out in the quarter final by 3 points and Gustas Giraitis (Boys 2 – 39KG) who lost in the quarter final by 1 point.
Club coach Dmirij Dmitruk was very pleased with the performance of all boxers and is looking forward to future success for the young club. For further information on the Spartacus Boxing Club contact Dmirij on 086 – 0661712
