The Annual Daingean Festival 5km road race and fun run was held in Daingean, on Friday, August 3. The race starts at the Edenderry end of the town and travels anti-clockwise down the main street, onto Church Road and then the ‘Circular Road’ back to the Edenderry Road.
The 4 loops provide a tough challenge for runners to battle it out for places and positions in all categories and also provides a fine course for newcomers to experience the racing atmosphere.
24 Tullamore Harriers members competed in the event and almost all came away with awards for their performances. First Harriers man home was Dave Fox who finished in 11th position in a very competitive field.
The race was won by Edmund o’Neill (Tinyrland) in a time of 15.53, with Colm Burke(St Abbans) in 2nd place( 16.02), and Ferbane AC athlete Paul Buckley in 3rd (16.05). First Lady finisher was Imelda Clarke (Na Fianna) in a time of 19.21, just ahead of our Michelle Mullaney (19.33), and Sinead Rigney (20.32) in 3rd place.
