Shane Lowry returned to form over the weekend with back to back five under par 67s at the Open de Andalucia to move right up the leaderboard to a share of seventh place at the end of the event.
The Offaly man was just one under at the conclusion of play on Friday after two up and down rounds but on Saturday he carded four birdies, an eagle and just one bogey to shoot up the rankings.
At one point on Sunday he was right in contention at one stage tying for the lead after seven birdies in his opening 14 holes but bogeys on 16 and 17 dropped him back slightly.
Nonetheless the Clara native was happy with his day and on Twitter he commented, “Gave it my all today but wasn’t to be. Great buzz being in contention on Sunday. thanks for all your kind messages. #onwardsandupwards.”
The top ten finish earned Shane a prize of € 24,350 and also got his challenge on this year’s Road to Dubai underway and he moves up seven places to 128th in the latest Official World Golf Rankings.
Next up is for Shane is a trip to North Africa this week to compete in the Trophee Hassan II in Morocco.
