A competitive swimming club is badly needed in Tullamore. That’s according to Tullamore Town Cllr Brendan Killeavy.
At the June meeting of the council he appealed to members on the board of Tullamore Leisure Ltd to meet with management with a view to giving a competitive rate to a new competitive swimming club.
“There is a group in the town trying to set up a competitive swimming club like the ones in Athlone, Portlaoise and Clara. Management from Tullamore Leisure LTD met with the group. But there is an issue over the rental of lanes. It is not coming in financially viable. It is still cheaper to go to Athlone or Portarlington. It is the duty of the people of Tullamore to work with this group. We need a competitive swimming group,” remarked Cllr Killeavy.
He asked that maybe management could meet again with thses people and meet them half way to make sure it can be done financially.
