The Annual Laois 10k Mini-Marathon will take place for a fifth consecutive year this September with proceeds from the event will go to supports for Laois Family Carers who are confined to home looking after their loved ones.
It takes place on September 15 with a 12 noon start at the Maldron Hotel in Portlaoise. It’s a very popular 10k route and the event raises much needed funds for supports and services to Laois Family Carers in a time of government cuts while it also, presents an opportunity to fundraise for other charities and organisations locally, who are also dependant on fundraising to survive.
The meeting point is at the Maldron Hotel on the Abbeyleix Road where participants can pick up their race numbers and timing chips.
The participants will be led by St Josephs Accordion Band to the starting line. The route heads onto the Meelick road, turning right on to the Timahoe road and left again bringing the runners straight across the roundabout on to the Stradbally road. Here they will take a left again on to the small road that comes out at Kilminchy. From here it will be down the Dublin road, around the church and up Fintan Lalor Avenue turning left at the Garda Station and finishing at the Portlaoise Golf Club on the Abbeyleix Road.
Medals will be awarded to each participant and fantastic prizes to the winners of the Ladies/Gents and Wheelchair Users categories.
Timing Chips will be used. Parking is available and refreshments will be served in the Maldron Hotel after the race. Early Bird registration is €15 and registration on the day will be €20 per person. This goes to the Carers Association who organise the event but if you would like to raise money on a sponsorship card for Carers or for any charity/club of your choice please make contact to receive a sponsorship pack.
You can register by cutting out the registration form printed in the Leinster Express (page 67) and posting along with your money to the address shown: Alternatively you can register on-line by visiting www.runireland.com or www.carersireland.com.
