OFFALY golfer Shane Lowry has opened his challenge at the lucrative BMW Masters in Shanghai with a level par 72.
Winner of the Portugal Masters last time out, Lowry fought back from a disastrous eight on the par five third to get back to level by the end of his round.
He birdied the second, eighth, eleventh and eighteenth while his only other dropped shot was at the seventeenth.
The tournament is currently being lead by Welsh golfer Jamie Donaldson who shot an incredible 10 under par 62 in a round with ten birdies and eight pars.
He is four ahead of the field with Peter Hanson and Francesco Molinari both on six under.
Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal is one three players on five under alongside Irish duo Rory McIlroy and Michael Hoey.
The select 78 man field are playing for a first prize in excess of €888,000.
