Busy weekend for Tullamore triathletes

It was a busy weekend for Tullamore triathletes with Athy hosting their two day annual event.

It was a busy weekend for Tullamore triathletes with Athy hosting their two day annual event.

First up was Ger Lynam and Adrian Martin who were competing in the double olympic event (Swim 3km, Bike 80Km, Run 20Km). On a day perfect for triathlon, Ger came home in a time of (race position in brackets) 4:53:38 (27) with splits of 1:02:39, 2:16:23 and 1:31:13. Adrian had a time of 5:26:18 (79) with splits of 1:06:26, 2:34:01 and 1:39:06. Adrian was also first in his age category.

Next up was the olympic distance (Swim 1,500m, Bike 40Km and Run 10Km) where Shane Guinan, Tony McCormack and Brian Monaghan all competed. Shane was home in a time of 2:27:56 (161) with splits of 29:15, 1:10:43 and 43:33. Brian completed in a time of 2:33:46 (226) with splits of 31:04, 1:08:58 and 50:00 and Tony finished with a time of 2:41:00 (298) with splits of 33:17, 1:16:32 and 48:33.

Two triathletes, Eilis Crimmins and Leonard Ownes, were attempting their first triathlon by competing in the Try a Tri (Swim 400m, Bike 16Km and Run 3.5Km). Leonard completed the course in a time of 1:00:15 (20) with splits of 10:10, 30:08 and 15:44. Eilis finished with a time of 1:19:14, splits of 5:04, 44:40 and 23:55. Well done to both.

Three triathletes, Harry Phelan, Emma Lee and John Monaghan were also competing in their first triathlon, a Sprint distance triathlon (Swim 750m, Bike 20Km and Run 5Km). Unfortunately, weather conditions turned for the worst on Sunday with the onset of wind and rain. Harry came home in a time of 1:18:32 with splits of 15:40, 37:24 and 21:54. John completed in 1:24:41 with splits of 17:22, 41:07 and 21:43. Emma completed in 1:34:52 with splits of 14:14, 48:03 and 27:15. Well done to all and no doubt some new names to appear at races in the future.

On Saturday, May 27, Craig Murray, Brendan Kennedy, Tony McCormack and Ultan Hynes who were all competing in Spiddal. First up was Craig and Brendan who entered the olympic distance, splits as follows (race position in brackets): Craig (38) total 2:52:59, swim 27:35 bike 1:30:54 run 50:03, Brendan (60) total 3:19:16, swim 33:53 bike 1:47:50 run 51:24. Tony and Ultan were both in the Sprint distance with following splits: Tony (25) total 1:30:09, swim 16:27 bike 44:03 run 27:01, Ultan (97) 1:47:35, swim 18:06 bike 51:39 run 29:41..... Also on May 27, congratulations to Maurice Fitzgerald who was first home in a kayathlon in lilliput in a time of 50:40 for a 1.5Km kayak, 17.5Km bike and 2.5Km run
