In what has undoubtedly been highlighted as the most successful year in well over a decade for Offaly Community Games there was nothing but proof of this to be seen at AIT home of the HSE Community Games National Finals over the past two weekends.
As the sun shone down on the Athlone campus many of the seasoned national finals goers commented with open smiles on their face of how the old festival feeling of Mosney had returned to the games. A camp full of over 3,000 children, accompanied by their families and friends as well as hundreds of volunteers from all over the country all played their role in making the national finals a huge success.
There were outstanding displays of sport, culture and talent on display for all to see. In addressing the colourful opening parade, Community Games President Mr Gerry Davenport eluded to the fact that national finals is about more than just competing it’s about friendships and building personalities.
