Newly crowned World Champion Katie Taylor will be the guest of honour at the official opening of Spartcaus Boxing Club in Tullamore this Sunday.
Based in Axis Business Park, the club has been on the go since September of last year and in the short space of time club members have already won eight gold medals in the Offaly County Board Championships, have five Leinster champions and three All Ireland Championship finalists.
To mark the official opening, a boxing tournament will take place in the Bridge House in Tullamore this Sunday from 2pm to 6pm where London bound Katie is scheduled to make an appearance.
Boxing clubs from around the country will attend the tournament including All Ireland Champions from Tuam, Oughterard, Ardagh/Crossmolina, Maynooth, Portlaoise, Moate, Daingean and Ballinasloe.
Tickets for the tournament are available from the Bridge House Hotel Reception at a cost of €12 for adults and €5 for a child.
A raffle will be held at the event and monies raised will go back into the club to improve its premises. You can follow the club on Facebook for any updates.
Katie Taylor won her fourth straight World Title in China on Saturday beating her talented Russian opponent Sophya Ochigava in a close fight on points.
The win gives the Bray lightweight boxer a berth in the quarter-finals of the upcoming Olympic Games in London where she will be hoping to add a gold medal to her impressive haul of World Titles.
