KILBEGGAN SHAMROCKS
Ladies are back
Our adult ladies football team made a return to action after a lapse of a few years when they played a challenge match against St Brigid’s in Kilto
Featuring a mix of youth and experience, the team acquitted themselves very well ahead of their return to competitive action. With another half dozen or so players also due to come on board over the coming weeks, the girls are hoping to give the junior ‘B’ championship a good rattle later in the year.
The return of the adult ladies team means that for the first time in our history, we will be fielding teams on our own in every grade, from U8 up, in men’s and ladies football this year, and not forgetting in Mothers and Others.
Team: Lauren Wrafter; Olivia Wrafter, Gillian Heeney, Emily Wrafter; Abbie Coffey, Jill Draper, Ellie Fitzpatrick; Becky Scally, Ava Rochford; Anna Wrafter, Aoibhinn Jackson, Aideen Pettit; Chloe Gannon, Chloe Ruane, Carol Gavin. Subs: Jane Colton, Ailbhe Rabbitte, Aíne Pettit, Aoife Finn, Sarah Kiernan, Katie Coffey and Amy Wrafter.
Last Man Standing
Congratulations to Mark Wrafter on being crowned our Last Man Standing champion for 2025.
Going into Week 5 of our annual National League prediction competition, it was a two-horse race between Mark and James Fox, but while the Cork hurlers delivered for Mark by beating Kilkenny, James was let down by Limerick who lost to Clare. However, both shared in the €300 prize fund after agreeing to split the winnings beforehand.
Gerry Stenson had already won the losers’ section and the €100 cash prize. Our thanks as always to Mel Kiernan for running the competition.

Awards Night
Last weekend we had our Awards Night for 2024 where we celebrated our two Championship winning teams in 2024 along with our Player of the Year Award winners for all the different teams in the club. Also on the night Paul O Kelly was honoured with the Presidents Lifetime award for his service to the club down through the years both on and off the pitch, Paul was manager of our Senior team in 1985 when we bridged a 28 year gap in winning the Dowling Cup and has played a huge role in our present coaching setup from underage up and was a member of the management team under Tommy Lyons in 1997 and 1998 when Offaly captured a Leinster title in 97 and the National League title in 98.Paul was a leading light as the Club put together our first 5 year plan in 2010 and we became one of the first clubs in Ireland to implement one.It was great to see both Tommy Lyons and Eddie Fleming attend the event and take part in a Q& A session with Paul and Finbarr Cullen on stage after the presentation. Liam Nugent was inducted into our Hall of Fame and his citation mentioned the stellar service Liam gave to the club on the field of play for over 15 year as a Senior player and was one of the most influential players when we won the Dowling Cup in 1985.Liam was one on the unlucky players in that his career happened to coincide with both the Walsh Island 6 in a row team from 1978 to 1983 who Edenderry dethroned in 1984 and then the Ferbane 5 in row team from 1986 to 1990 but Liam was never found wanting in any battle on the field .A big thank you must go to Mags Kenny and her sub- committee who had the Pavilion looking splendid and everyone who attended had a really enjoyable night.
