Digan's Bar team wins the prestigious Winter League at Tullamore Golf Club

A NUMBER of Offaly senior hurling legends formed part of the team which won the Winter League at Tullamore Golf club last weekend.

After almost 1000 rounds of golf over four months this year’s winning team in the Winter League 2024/25, sponsored by JD Scanlon & Co Solicitors, was Digan’s Bar.

The winning team consisted of Michael Duignan, Martin Darcy, Ruadhri Clarke, Johnny Dooley, Daithi Regan and Liam Mooney.

They had a fantastic score on the day of 183.

Second place (by count back) went to the Disasters - Griffith Smith, Nigel Kearney, Paul Galvin, Sean Kilroe, Roddy Molloy and John Fenlon. Leading qualifier prize went to Captain Pat Kelly.

Congratulations to Tom Sheeran who scored a hole in one on the 12th (11th on winter course) with his trusty 5 iron. What an achievement, well done Tom!

Ladies Golf

Tuesday 25th February was a nice sunny winter’s day and the Ladies played a 13 Hole Single Stableford competition, kindly sponsored by Janet Cogley and Miriam Hogan. The winner was Jo Barber Loughnane (22.3) 30 pts. Runner-up was Helen Wilson (27.7) 26 pts on a countback from Bernie Kavanagh (20.2) 26 pts also on a countback from Category 1 winner Helen Egan (16.2) 26 pts. Category 2 winner was Theresa Kelly (21.0) 23 pts and Category 3 winner was Mary Egan (30.7) 25 pts

Women in Sports Week takes place March 2nd – 9th 2025 and we are celebrating two exciting events! Captain V Secretary competition took place on Sunday, March 2th. There was a great turnout with over 50 women playing on a lovely day. The Secretary’s team was victorious. Outstanding prizes were presented accompanied by many celebrations in the clubhouse. On Tuesday, March 4th we are running a 14-Hole Stableford Tournament sponsored by Offaly Sports Partnership to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Congrats to our own Sinéad Ní Cheilleachair who features on this year’s poster. Sinéad is currently on a golf scholarship in Colorado State University.

The February monthly competition was a 3-Person Waltz sponsored by Olive Carragher, Orla Carragher & Eileen Kinsella. The winners were Dora Glynn, Patricia Mahon & Laura Dempsey. Runners-Up were Eileen Kinsella, Helen Egan & Captain Frances Daly. The monthly competition for March is a Fourball Betterball sponsored by Renee Harney, Carmel Manton & Pauline Needham

The monthly putting competition is starts on 1st March. The putting practice green is marked out and ready to go! Enter as often as you like, aggregate of 3 cards will decide the winner (three 18 hole cards or six 9 hole cards). And it’s free - no entry fee!
