Offaly man in court after damaging ex-partner's car and home

A MAN who caused damage to the house and car of his ex-partner appeared in Tullamore District Court last week.
In his evidence Sgt James O'Sullivan said that on April 23, 2023, Richard Hughes, (38) of 898 Francis Street, Edenderry, entered the home of his ex-partner. A dispute arose. When his ex-partner asked him to leave Mr Hughes broke the wing mirror of her car, pulled the ensuite door down and threw keys at the wall which created a hole.
The damage was estimated to be €600.
Solicitor Aisling Maloney said her client was a 38 year old man. She said on the night in question he had too much to drink. He was very ashamed and can't explain why it escalated.
She said he will need time to pay compensation. She said he works in Kilsaran Concrete and lives with his father.
Judge Andrew Cody said a lot of damage had been caused. He put the case back to May 24 next and told the defendant to have €1,000 in court on that day as compensation.
Ms Maloney said the defendant had a lot of outgoings but Judge Cody said he was giving him a month to pay.
He remanded the defendant on bail until that day on bail conditions previously set by the court.
