A People's Park in Clonbullogue has received funding
€450,000 in funding has been announced for Offaly projects under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, announced details of the projects last week.
The funding will facilitate three villages in Offaly, namely Ballyboy, Clonbullogue and Killeigh, to enhance their village centre living as outlined in the government's Our Rural Future – Rural Development Policy.
Ballyboy will receive €100,000 to develop a green space and recreational area in Ballyboy village centre, including a landscaped area with seating, lighting and amenity car parking area.
Also receiving €100,000 is Clonbullogue to create a “People’s Park” at the river amenity in Clonbullogue village and complete a safe bridge link forming a looped River Walk accessible to all.
Killeigh will receive €200,000 for the refurbishment of the vacant Macra Hall, Killeigh into a modern remote working hub as part of a multifunctional community space serving Killeigh village and its’ surrounding hinterlands.
Speaking after the announcement, Cathaoirleach of Offaly County Council, Cllr Declan Harvey, said: “This funding is about helping communities to adapt to ongoing challenges– it will help make our towns and villages attractive places to live, work and do business.”
CE of Offaly County Council, Anna-Marie Delaney, welcomed the funding announcement and said: “This funding is very important to our county to enhance economic and social activity. Our team works closely with local communities in making these applications and I would encourage any community groups who are currently developing plans to contact The Regeneration Team in the Planning Section of Offaly County Council for assistance in accessing future funding opportunities.”
