Two Offaly singers to perform at this year's Hot Country Awards

Two of Offaly's fastest-rising country music stars are set to grace the stage at this year's Hot Country Awards in April.

Banagher man Colin Kenny and Clara native Alex Roe have both been confirmed as performers on the night in the Slieve Russell Hotel in Cavan on April 29.

Roe's star has been in the ascendancy over the past year, with a succession of #1 successes and a sold-out debut album launch night, and the young Offaly man can't wait to get back under the bright lights and in front of the cameras at country's biggest night of the year.

"I put the date in my diary as soon as I got Hugh's invitation to take part, and I've been looking forward to it ever since. Last year was my first time to take part in the Awards Concert, and it was definitely one of the highlights of my year, and of my career so far."

"I had the chance to take part in this amazing event with artists who are heroes of mine, like Derek Ryan, for example. You get there and see the size of the ballroom in the Slieve Russell and it's just huge. Then you see all of the fans begin to come in and take their seats, and you start to feel a bit nervous thinking about how many people you'll actually be singing to."

"But to be honest, that all changes to excitement very quickly for me. And once you're up there on the stage, there's so many lights in your face - because it's such a huge production - that you can't see what's in front of you anyway, so it's grand," ALex laughed.

Despite seeing his first three singles - all originals - climb to the top of the iTunes country chart in Ireland, Alex hasn't released anything since he launched his debut album, 'Living The Life', in October of last year. But that's something he plans on putting right very soon.

The singer explains, "recording an album was something I always wanted to do. So that was an important milestone for me. But now I'm looking ahead to the start of the next chapter in my career. So I wanted to take a little time to think about what song to do next. I've done that now, and I'm delighted to say that we're working on something that I'm really excited about. I can't wait to be able to share the news about it very soon."

Colin Kenny, the man behind the hit singles, 'The Best Song of All Time', and more recently, 'I'm A Country Singer', has also been confirmed as one of the artists to perform on April 29.

Colin will be returning to perform at this prestigious event for the third year running. "Like so many country artists in Ireland, I've been very lucky in the support I've received from Hugh [O' Brien, founder of Hot Country]. Not only does he play my videos on his show, but he's been kind enough to invite me along to be a part of this great night, too."

"For the last two years, I had the honour of being one of the artists who got the whole night underway. Now, as any singer will tell you, anytime you get to sing to an audience this size, that's a good night. So I've loved my experience at the show over the last two years, mixing with so many lovely fans afterwards, and of course getting to spend time in the company of so many of the other artists as well. It's rare enough when everyone gets to be in the one place at the one time. But if there's a night when everybody tries to make that happen, it's the Hot Country Awards!"

Colin debuted his #1 single, 'The Best Song of All Time', at last year's show. Can fans expect another surprise this year? "Well, you'd never know. I'm putting the finishing touches to my new single at the moment, and it's going to be another original. I think we're nearly there with it, so I'd say it will probably be released before the Awards come around. But it could well end up being what I perform on the night. I'll keep you posted on that," Colin said.

Both Colin and Alex will be performing at the Hot Country TV Awards Concert on April 29, at the Slieve Russell Hotel in Cavan.
