TULLAMORE and District Angling Club held our annual open pike angling competition for the Hogan Cup on Sunday last, February 15.
This is the club’s biggest pike angling event of the year and is fished in memory of Jim Hogan, a well-known Tullamore club angler. Although Jim is no longer with us, he still lives on in the memory of his friends and family.
This year, we had a great turnout, with 41 anglers supporting the event.
Most of the anglers who turned out to fish caught pike throughout the competition, and in all, 40 pike were landed.
The winner of the day was John Donnellan. John caught 2 pike for a a combined weight of 23lb. This won John the Jim Hogan Memorial trophy, the prize for the heaviest bag of the day and the prize for the heaviest fish of the day, too, so a very well done John.
In second place was Damien Lawlor, who caught 2 pike throughout the day, up to 16lb 7oz.
In third place was Pat Foran, who caught 5 pike throughout the day, up to 12lb 12oz.
In fourth, we had Eamon Hogan, who caught 3 pike weighing 9lb 12oz.
In fifth place was a tie between Charlie Lawlor (1 fish) and Pauline Cunnigham (2 Fish), who each had a total weight of 9lb 6oz.
Well done to all.
1st place in junior prizes on the day went to Jake Maher,
2nd prize went to Matthew Lawlor 3rd went to Niall Grehan.

The club returned to the Fergies Bar for our prize-giving ceremony. The anglers enjoyed hot food and refreshments.
The club would like to thank the Hogan family for sponsoring the event and supplying the beautiful prizes to be raffled off, ensuring everyone left with something.

Paddy and Johnny Hogan travelled from New York to fish for the event, and it was great to see everyone again.
It was wonderful to have our overseas guests in Tullamore, and we wish them a pleasant and safe stay in Ireland in the next few weeks.
The club would like to extend a huge thank-you to the Hogan family and The Fergies Bar for making the event a success.
The club would also like to thank all our committee members and competition officers who have worked hard behind the scenes to keep the show going. Also, a huge thanks to all our members, new and old, who support the club with their attendance.
