Prisoners involved in huge litter clean-up in Offaly countryside
A staggering 15 tonnes of rubbish has been discovered along the Boora road in Kilcormac.
Last week, a joint clean up was carried out along the road by Offaly County Council in conjunction with Coillte and the Probationary Service.
Over 15 tonnes of illegally dumped waste was collected and transferred to landfill.
A litter pick was then carried out by members of the Probationary Service. "We would like to acknowledge the hard work of all parties and thank those involved," Offaly County Council said.
"This is material which has been illegally dumped by members of the public who clearly have no regard for their environment or the spending of public money on cleanups," they added.
They appeal to people to "please when out and about, bring your rubbish home and always use a registered waste collector for your household waste."
