The Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade and Deputy Leader of Fine Gael, Simon Coveney's Brexit meeting has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

The meeting was due to take place in Birr on Thursday, June 21, where the Tánaiste was set to address the rural impacts of Brexit with Offaly farmers and residents.

His party colleague and Offaly TD, Marcella Corcoran Kennedy confirmed the cancellation on Friday evening. "Ironically it is Brexit that is preventing An Tánaiste, Simon Coveney from travelling to Birr," she said.

"The Taoiseach and the Tánaiste are meeting with the European Union Commission President, Jean Claude Juncker and the European Union’s Chief Brexit Negotiator, Michel Barnier in Dublin on Thursday next. This visit comes ahead of the June EU Summit and it comes at a critical juncture in the Brexit talks."

"I am looking forward to rescheduling the event with the Tánaiste in the near future," Marcella said.
