North Offaly villages' Town Twinning project going from strength to strength

Here's your chance to get involved in Town Twinning Project between Ballycommon, Ballinagar and Geashill (BBG) and Jaux, France

Now in its second year, the BBG Town Twinning with Jaux is going from strength to strength.

Nine French visitors were here in March 2018 for the St Patrick's weekend and now those involved have been invited back to Jaux for its June village festival from June 22-25 this year

Everyone from the Ballycommon, Ballinagar and Geashill and surrounding areas who wish to get involved can do so. You can inform the committee that you are interested in going to Jaux (or being a host family), pay for your flights to Jaux and you will be placed with a host family there.

The ethos of the twinning is education, economic growth and culture between our two communities. Hosts provide you with a bed and breakfast. Hosts are also welcome to participate in the activities of the weekend if they wish with their visitors. And the favour is reciprocated the following year or whenever you can host here in Ireland.

Don't worry if you have never been involved in twinning before or if you can’t host for whatever reason. New people are always very welcome and you can contribute in many ways with the committee or be part of a sub-committee that will be formed for a specific event. Also there is absolutely no requirement to be able to speak French – people get by on Google translate and our shared use of pigeon English/French, and the international language of sign language and humour! If you are interested in visiting Jaux this year or next or hosting a French visitor or visitors, or would like to be involved with the project, contact Denise Keoghan 087 9183352 or PM us on our facebook page. We would love to hear from you!

Table Quiz: On Friday 11th May the BBG Town Twinning Committee are hosting a table quiz with a difference in High Chaparral Geashilll from 9pm 'til late. Come along and bring a friend. There will be plenty of spot prizes and tables are €40 for 4 participants. For more information and tickets contact any of the committee members. To see more information check out our Facebook page fb/bbgtowntwinning or call any of the members of the BBG Committee. The BBG committee members consist of: Gerard Nolan, Mary O’Connor (Ballycommon), Greta Clear (Geashill), Mags Duffy, Denise Keoghan (0879183352) & Margo Sheil (Ballinagar).
