Offaly councillor calls for increased roads funding


Fitzpatrick welcomes commencement of footpath works in Portarlington

Ahead of the publication of the National Planning Framework on Friday, Offaly County Councillor Eddie Fitzpatrick says a significant increase in investment for local and regional roads in this region is a must and that "extra funding is urgently required to ensure our roads are restored to a standard that's required for safety to all motorists."

"The general public are becoming very annoyed at the level of road resurfacing been carried out in recent years seen the increase they have to contribute in Road and Property Tax," concludes Cllr Fitzpatrick.

A recent announcement of €7.7 million in roads funding for Offaly was quickly dismissed by motorists who say that amount is simply not enough.

Continually, the many issues with Offaly roads, namely that so many are built on bogs, has seen calls for extra funding for Offaly.
