Temperatures dropped below -6 degrees overnight
Temperatures are expected to rise over the course of the week

Temperatures in the midlands dropped just below -6°C overnight according to data from Met Eireann.
The weather station in Gurteen recorded a low of -6.3 degrees. The automatic station in Gurteen replaced the station in Birr in 2009. Mullingar recorded a low point of -5.3°C

Met Eireann is predicting another cold night tonight with temperatures falling to a low of -4°C.
