Planning application lodged to demolish rebuild LIDL store in Birr

LIDL look to rebuild store in Birr

An application has been lodged with Offaly County Council for permission to demolish the existing LIDL store in Birr and to build a larger premises on the site.

The existing store has a gross floor area of 1,255sq/m with 997sq/m of retail sales area.

The proposed new development would have a gross floor area of 2,680 sq/m with a retail sales area including a bakery and off license of 1,424sq/m.

This would include public facilities including toilets, staff facilities, storage, plant room and delivery area on the ground floor.
staff welfare (including toilets, change rooms and staff canteen area), roof terrace, meeting room, it room, cleaning room, stairs and lift from ground floor are all proposed to be at first floor level.

It is proposed to have 142 car parking spaces with six disabled and 12 parent and child.  Vehicle access would be maintained from the Tullamore Road with a new dedicated pedestrian access.  A decision on the application is due on January 14 with the deadline for submissions being December 15.
