The Midlands Region of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) in conjunction with Matrix Recruitment recently hosted a very successful breakfast event,“Disciplinary Hearings: A Legal Workshop” in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone.

This was the second event in an exciting programme of events for 2016/2017 provided by the Midlands Region Committee.

Following a networking opportunity for attendees, there were introductions from Alison Sheridan, Chairperson CIPD Midlands Committee and Breda Dooley, Recruitment Manager Matrix, Athlone. The key speaker, David McCarroll of Ronan Daly Jeremyn (RDJ), then set the scene with some background information on the key factors that should be considered when managing a disciplinary hearing.

David McCarroll is a Partner with law firm Ronan Daly Jermyn and together with three associates from the Employment Law team they provided the audience of over 70 people with a very interactive and informative session on the do’s and don’ts of disciplinary hearings. Focusing on the practical side of running hearings, they provided attendees with sample documents, examples of real life situations, an opportunity for break-out discussions and experienced guidance on overcoming the various roadblocks that arise. Emphasising the importance of fair procedure it was clear from the workshop that most employment law claims are won or lost based on how those hearings are run.

Ronan Daly Jermyn is one of Ireland’s top ten full-service law firms. With offices in Dublin, Galway, Cork and London, the firm currently employs over 220 people. Their unique national footprint is further bolstered by a strategic alliance with UK and US law firms, allowing them to offer a multi-jurisdictional service across Europe, the US and Asia.
