Car and cigarettes seized at Rosslare Port
On Saturday, January 20, Revenue officers in Rosslare Europort seized 29,800 unstamped cigarettes concealed in the floor of a foreign-registered Chrysler Voyager minivan.
The smuggled cigarettes, branded “Rothmans”, were detected when the vehicle was selected for examination following routine profiling.
Both the vehicle and the smuggled cigarettes were seized.
The smuggled cigarettes have an estimated retail value of more than €15,000, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of approximately €13,000. Investigations are ongoing with a view to prosecution.
