Organisers give update on opening time for today at Ploughing 2018
The National Ploughing Association has indicated that it's all system go for Day 2 of the Ploughing at the later time of 11am amid a Status Orange weather warning.
Having announced the later public opening time of 11am for Wednesday on Tuesday evening, the NPA gave a further update on Wednesday morning.
"Following high-level meeting with Met Eireann, the National Ploughing Championships will open the gates as planned to the general public at 11.00am today," they told the Offaly Express.
"Exhibitors are permitted to enter the site at 10.30am, which may be earlier as the winds abate," they added.
The later opening time was announced due to the arrival of Storm Ali and the issuing of an Orange wind warning for 17 counties, including Offaly, by Met Éireann.
The national forecaster warns of winds of 65 to 80km/h and gusts of 130km/h on Wednesday. The warning is valid in Offaly until 1pm, two hours after the gates open.
97,500 people attended Day 1 of the Ploughing on Tuesday with a similar number expected on Wednesday and Thursday.
