Offaly County Council has announced an emergency and immediate road closure on the outskirts of Birr.
The road N62 road at Kennedy's Cross in the Ballindown Townland, just north of Birr town has been closed.
"Vehicular access will be available for the local residents/landowners via detour but access from Kennedys Cross (Ballindown Townland) north of Birr Town will not be available," the Council said.
ALTERNATIVE ROUTES ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Northbound Diversion Route
Traffic travelling North on N62 will divert onto Traffic Management Diversion Route (Via N-52 onto L-3003 onto N-62) to continue North on N62.
Southbound Diversion Route
Traffic travelling South on N62 divert south of Cloghan Village onto Traffic Management Diversion Route (Via R-356 onto R-438 onto R-439 onto N52) to continue South on N62.
All diversion routes will be signposted.
The Council have said "the road will be closed for a one-day period beginning on Tuesday, October 9.
The road closure is necessary to facilitate the removal and replacement of road pavement and accommodation works. A map indicating the location of the road closure and diversions to be put in place may be viewed on the local authority’s website at www.offaly.ie.
Offaly County Council apologises for any inconvenience to road users but stress that the closure is necessary.
