Offaly County Councillor Liam Quinn has welcomed the government's decision to allocate €80,000 in funding for traffic safety measures at Rhode School.

Speaking after the announcement Cllr Quinn stated that "this has been a major issue locally for a number of years."

"I have raised this issue at numerous meetings of the Edenderry Municipal District and I hope that this funding will help alleviate the problems currently being experienced by both parents and teachers attending the school each day," Cllr Quinn added.

"I will be requesting that our engineers visit the school over the coming weeks to ensure that all parties concerned are happy with any planned works well in advance of their commencing."

"Further to this announcement I will be asking Offaly County Council to provide funding to resurface the road from the village to Rhode school in tandem with these works for the coming year as it would make a major improvement on this heavily trafficked road," Cllr Quinn concluded.
