Icy stretches around Offaly this morning
Temperatures remain below freezing this morning across Offaly and motorists and pedestrians are being warned about slippery conditions.
Offaly County Council have been treating several routes overnight but some secondary roads, and particularly back roads, still have a dangerous covering of snow and ice.
AA Roadwatch is warning that road conditions are particularly icy in the Birr area.
Conditions should improve throughout the day but sections of road and path that are in the shade could remain frozen throughout the day.
Today will be a cold, bright, mainly dry day. Temperatures could reach a high of 6 degrees although it will feel considerably colder in northerly winds.
The comparative rise in temperature should allow for the majority of the snow and ice to thaw.
It will be very cold again tonight with lowest temperatures of -4 degrees bringing icy patches and dangerous road conditions in places. It will however be a mostly dry and clear night.
