The fifth generation Nissan Micra grows in every single way

The fifth generation Nissan Micra

The all new Nissan Micra has been described as revolutionary. In its fifth generation, the new model is a massive progression from the one it is replaces.
New Micra is longer, wider and lower. The car has been repositioned at the heart of the ultra-competitive European B-hatchback segment.
Key to its appeal is the car’s athletic and expressive exterior design, which moves the Micra name plate in a daring new direction.
New Micra is also a technology leader, with a number of ‘in-control’ features available for the first time. Not only are they new to the Micra, they’re new to the segment.
These include Intelligent Lane Intervention, a safety system which gently corrects the Micra back on to the right path should it be required. Nissan’s acclaimed Intelligent Around View Monitor camera system is also available on the Micra for the first time.
The car is available with three downsized engines – two petrol and one diesel – all linked to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Nissan’s familiar four grades of XE, SV, SV Premium and SVE all feature a high level of standard specification.
Express personalities
Customers’ desires to express their own personalities and design tastes will be another part of its appeal. The car will be available with a wide range of personalisation options, modifying the exterior and interior with premium components in a variety of stylish and contemporary colours.
Order books for the new Micra open in April 2017. Pricing ranges from €16,650 to €22,650.
Available only as a five-door model, the car is longer, lower and wider. The wheelbase is also longer. The new Micra is the widest model in the B-hatchback segment and among the lowest.
The new Micra is available in 10 body colours. The solid finishes are Ivory and White, with Platinum Silver, Gunmetal Grey and Enigma Black available as standard metallic finishes. The ‘character’ metallic colours are Energy Orange, Passion Red, Pulse Green and Power Blue, and are expected to be among the most popular choices with customers. Glaze White is the single pearlescent option.
Three of the colours – Energy Orange, Pulse Green and Passion Red – are unique to Micra, with the latter using an innovative ‘tinted clear coat’ technology for a truly vibrant finish. This is another first for the brand.
Levels of refinement and the highest perceived quality were a top priority for the development team, expressed through the use of two-tone and soft-touch materials as standard on every grade of Micra.
Coupled with class-leading fore/aft driver’s seat adjustment, it means a driver who is 2.03 metres (6 ft 8 ins) can even fit comfortably behind the wheel.
Boot space
Boot capacity is a very competitive 300 litres (VDA), and delivered without compromising on rear passenger knee room. That figure expands to 1,004 litres when the 60:40 split rear seats are folded down.
The new Micra is available with a Safety+ Pack, which is standard equipment on Tekna grade and optional on all others. It adds Intelligent Lane Intervention, Intelligent Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Recognition, Traffic Sign Recognition and High Beam Assist to the car’s specification.
The all new Micra will be available with three responsive and efficient engines at launch – two petrol: 0.9 litre turbo and 1.0 litre and a one 1.5 litre turbo-diesel engine.
It will come in four grade options - XE, SV, SV Premium and SVE. The range will start from €16,650 for the generously specified base 1.0 litre XE model and span up to €22,650 for the 1.5 litre diesel SVE version.
An increment of €1,000 will be charged for customers wishing to opt for the 0.9 litre turbo-petrol engine over the 1.0 litre naturally aspirated petrol and a further increment of €2,000 for the 1.5 litre diesel engine.
Standard specification in Micra XE grade includes 15" steel wheels/covers, LED daytime running lights, electric door mirrors with integrated turn signals, electric front windows, rear spoiler, Hill Start Assist, trip computer with gear-shift indicator and outside temperature read-out, manual air conditioning, height-adjustable driver’s seat, rake/reach adjustable steering wheel, two-tone dashboard.
